Clara Nelle Long, 90, passed away on April 9, 2024. She was born on May 16, 1933 in Ellery, Illinois. Clara was high school graduate and had some nursing education. She was a compassionate caregiver. She was a caregiver not only to her family but also to other families that preferred her personal in home care for their loved ones. Her interests include gardening, bird watching (especially the red birds), the beach, cooking/baking, chocolate candy making, traveling. She was a member of Central Church of Christ in Streator, Illinois. She loved her church and her dear church friends. While living in Eaton Park, FL she enjoyed having her grandchildren spend the night and attend Church service with her. She had a passion for traveling. She visited Alaska, Ireland, Hawaii, Panama Canal, Caribbean Island, and even experienced zip lining with her senior missionary group. She was known to have a green thumb, gardening veggies & flowers.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes Hazel Balding and Everett Virgil Mann, her siblings: Richard Mann, Anita West, Juanita Reiger, Lowell Mann, Thomas Mann, Wanda Ellis, and her spouse, Willian (Bill) Simms. who she married on 6-13-51. They were married for 37 years, Bill passed away 1988 Clara will be laid to rest next to him. She is also preceded in death by her spouse, Julian Emery Long who she married on 1-16-91, married for 19 years, Julian passed away in 2010, her son, Herbert Simms, son-in-law, Bill Holt, stepson, Elgie Long, and granddaughter, Jennifer Stringfellow. She is survived by her children: Jill (Herbert) Simms, Debby (Mike) Abel, Dixie (Bill) Holt, Reggie (Melinda) Simms, James (Karen) Simms, sisters, Etta Rae, Linda, Kenny, grandchildren: Leyna (Robert) Hanners, Laci (Corey) Wright, Ryan (Mandy) Abel, Travis (Jennifer) Abel, Necole (Wayne) Holt, Carrie (Steve) Schaible, Tiffany (Alvin) Ramkhalawan, Kristy (Edgar) Cornejo, Alicia (Scott) Remmetter, Chelsea (Brian) Mader, Sydney (Brad) Russell, 23 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great Great Grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 19, from 9-10 am with a funeral service following at 10 am at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Auburndale, Florida.
