Betty J. Smith, 79, of Winter Haven, passed away on November 9, 2014 dude to heart failure. She was born in Titusville, Florida and moved to this area 60 years ago. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving, caring, and devoted mother and grandmother to many and was known by most as "Granny".
She was preceded in death by her husband, David U. Smith, a son, Brian "Possum" Smith, parents, Ernest and Lucille Austin, grandsons, Jimmy Blackwell Jr. and Derek W. Brown, and a brother, William Hellyer. She is survived by her children, David "Buckshot" Smith, Connie E. Smith, Cheryl A. Brown, and Janie Blackwell, all of Winter Haven, a sister, Ellen Barker, of Clermont, Florida, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15th, from 10-11pm with a funeral service following at 11. Both will be held at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Auburndale, Florida.
