Lewiston - William F. Steele 87, of 340 Steele Rd., Auburn died Sunday August 21, 2011 at St. Mary's d'Youville Pavilion where he resided for the past month. Born in Auburn October 26, 1923 a son of the late Joseph and Effie Hanson Steele. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was married to the former Ernestine Anna Morris who died April 27, 1998 after 53 years of marriage. Mr. Steele was a member of the Danville Union Church and Danville Junction grange # 65. He worked at Thurston's Grain Mill in Danville Junction, Hinman construction, Blue Rock Industries, Maine Turnpike Authority and later for the City of Auburn highway garage. He enjoyed working on home projects, wood working, traveling, occasional gambling trips, bingo, spending time at his camp and country music concerts. He especially enjoyed listening to the "Gaithers" gospel band. He is survived by 3 daughters, Sharyn F. Steele of Auburn, Patsy E. Chan of Rohnert Park, CA. Janet Lashua and husband Michael of Auburn, his sons, Barry K. Steele of New Haven, MO., Scott F. Steele and friend Debbie of Hartford, grandchildren, Robin and husband Marc, Jennifer, Val, Remy, Derek, Mandy, Amy and husband Carl, Scott and wife Cassie, Coleen and husband Tony, Brandon, Kara, Jameson, Danica and husband Jeff. Great grandchildren: Heather, Chelsey, Seth, Gracie, Ashley, Courtney, Jake, Kelsey, McKinley and Ashton. Sister-in-laws Nadine Browne, Marjorie Steele and extended family of Marion Tripp. He was predeceased by his son William E. Steele, daughter-in-law Roxanne Steele, son-in-law Paul Chan, a sister Josephine Chisholm, brothers Carl, Lewis, John Steele and his loving companion of 12 years Marion Tripp. The family wishes to thank staff at d'Youville Pavilion, AHCH, St. Mary's, Dr. Harder's office for several years of care and kindness.
