Auburn, ME – Robert M. “Bob”, “Ollie” Oliver, 82, of Lewiston passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Andwell Hospice House. He was the husband of the late Sandra M. (Burgess) Oliver, who died in 2021.
Robert was born in the Panama Canal Zone on November 12, 1942, the son of the late Donald M. & Elizabeth C. (Oliver) Oliver. He married his loving wife Sandra on April 16, 1966, at East Auburn Baptist Church. They celebrated fifty-five years of marriage prior to her passing.
Bob was very proud of his service in the US Navy and being a Vietnam Veteran. He and his daughter were honored to be part of the Honor Flight in Maine where they were able to visit many monuments. He received the honor he deserved and proudly wore his veteran baseball cap.
Ollie was known for his outgoing personality and sense of humor. He shared many jokes and stories with his family, friends and even people he just met. He loved making other people laugh and smile. Some of his fondest memories and stories he told were about working as a cook on a Schooner and the fun he had at Hood’s Ice Cream Factory and later at Gate’s Form Fiber.
Robert was a huge follower of the East Auburn Lakers softball team and later attended all of his grandchildren’s’ sporting events. He enjoyed family events such as the Burgess Annual Fish Fry at Bear Pond and the endless holiday parties and barbeques, where he could always be found in the kitchen helping to prepare the food. The holidays also meant it was a time to entertain his grandchildren; he planned games, activities, challenges and even Easter egg hunts….all of this just to see them smile.
His love for people extended into volunteering for Andwell Hospice Care. Bob volunteered for twenty-five years at the facility itself and later began home health care, where he visited people and provided them with support and companionship. In 2009, he received a service award for his volunteerism and in 2014 received the Robert D. Turcotte Award; this award is given annually to someone who has made an outstanding contribution as a hospice volunteer. He found great pleasure in helping others!
He is survived by his daughter Karen E. Lafrance, her husband David and their three children Amber, Luke and Trevor. He was the father of the late Keith A. Oliver and the brother of the late Carol Martin, Donald M. Jr. and Richard “Dick” Oliver.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11 am at the East Auburn Baptist Church, 560 Park Ave., Auburn.
