1953 – 2021
Lewiston- Richard D. Mercier 68, of Dill St. Lewiston died Saturday December 11, at St. Mary's Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Lewiston on February 2, 1953, the son of Alfred and Mariette (Moreau) Mercier. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School class of 1972. He then went on to proudly serve his country in the US Air Force from 1972 through 1976.
Richard married his true love, the former Yvette Violette on November 24, 1973, and together they settled in Auburn to raise their three children. He was a police officer for the city of Lewiston for 22 years retiring as a Patrolman in 1998. He then went on to be the Court Officer for the Auburn Police Department retiring from there in 2018.
Richard was a member of Holy Cross Church, was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the American Legion Post 153 in New Auburn.
Richard loved to travel, and his yearly trips to Bar Harbor with his wife created many happy memories. He also enjoyed woodworking, making many items for family members, going out to eat and he took great pride working around his home and working in his gardens. His true favorite hobby was making memories with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Yvette Mercier of Lewiston, his mother Mariette Mercier of Auburn, his three children David Mercier and his wife Allison of Del Rio Tx, Scott Mercier and his wife Jennifer of Milford, and Melissa Kelly and her husband Shawn of Lewiston, his twin sisters Joanne Mercier of Buckfield and Joline Stevens and her husband James of Jackman, his six grandchildren Ashley Mercier, Austin Mercier, Trystan Mercier, Sydney Mercier, Jade Davis and husband Kyle, and Zachary Kelly, a great Granddaughter Kolby Davis, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Alfred Mercier.

Visitation is at Fortin Auburn Monday 12/20 from 5-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday 12/21 11 Am at Holy Cross Church. Family is asking all guests to wear masks to help with COVID precautions. Committal will be held in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
