Lewiston- Leo F. Ayotte, 94 passed away on December 17, 2024 at the Andwell Hospice House in Auburn with family by his side. He was born in Lewiston, Maine on January 1,1930, the son of the late Wilfred and Quilda Ayotte.
He attended Holy Family School and St Dominic Academy. He enlisted at 21 and received a medical discharge for his military service.
He married Lillian Parent on September 1,1951.
He had been employed at Burlington Knitting Mill in Conn. as a mechanic. He also worked for Jimmy’s
Gas Station in Auburn for 22 years. Leo started his business, Wash Ways Inc., in 1965. He built his car washes while building and servicing car washes for others.
Leo loved to travel and go out to eat with his wife, Lil. He enjoyed going to their condos in Florida and Old Orchard. They loved to entertain family and friends on the patios overlooking the ocean. When he was at home in Lewiston, you would find him in the basement or garage coming up with a new invention or pulling up the dandelions in the yard while battling the neighborhood squirrel population.
Leo is survived by his son, Ron Ayotte, his grandchildren, Amanda Ayotte and Billy Ayotte, and daughter-in-law, Lorette Ayotte. He spent most of his time talking and enjoying visits by his surviving sisters, Pauline Smith and Dot Denis. His great-grandson Aiden Ayotte, his “little buddy,” also survives him.
Leo was predeceased by his wife, Lillian, son Robert Ayotte, his parents Wilfred and Quilda Ayotte, and sister Rita Roy.
Committal Prayers honoring Leo’s life will be held on December 27, 2024, 11:00 AM, at St.Peter’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
