John M. Parent, 71, of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly on July 30th, 2024. He was born in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada on July 24, 1953, a son to Roland and Irene (Daigle) Parent. He grew up in Madawaska, Maine, graduating from Madawaska High School in 1971.
After school he joined the United States Navy and was stationed on the USS Thomaston LSD 28, serving for six years.
In 1974, while John was in boot camp, he married his high school sweetheart, Carlene.
Their first daughter was born in Seattle in 1977 while John was still in the Navy. Their second daughter was born in 1986 after they had moved back to Maine.
He attended Central Maine Community College (formerly known as Central Maine Technical College) where he studied electromechanical technology. After graduating, he spent time as an adjunct professor teaching a computer programming class.
John spent most of his career as an IT Manager at Geiger Brothers in Lewiston. This was followed by a brief stint at Oxford Networks before he entered retirement.
John was a lifelong learner and tinkerer. He filled his time with many hobbies and volunteer projects. His true passion was fishing and he was a licensed Maine striper fishing guide. He also loved motorcycles, flying and working on his RC airplanes as well as playing pool. He could fix anything from his daughters’ toys to car engines. John was a hard worker, man of his word, and would do anything for the people that he loved. He will be greatly missed.
John is predeceased by his parents, sister (Helen Rogers), and mother-in-law (Gilmay Theriault).
He leaves behind his beloved wife Carlene, his daughters and their husbands (Stacie & Fritz Kunas, Kellie & Ethan LaRochelle), his two grandchildren (Bode & Finn Kunas), his two brothers Michael (Jennifer) Parent and Patrick (Suzanne) Parent, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Per John’s wishes, there will be no service.
