Auburn - John L. Carrigan M.D., age 82, resident of Auburn, passed away early Monday morning July 3rd at The Hospice House. He was born in Boston, MA on November 16, 1940, one of 10 children born to John and Edith (Christiansen) Carrigan. John was educated in Boston schools and graduated high school from the Boston Latin School. Following high school, he graduated from Boston College and then attained his medical degree from Boston University Medical School. He was a military veteran having served his country in the U.S. Navy until his Honorable Discharge.
Dr. Carrigan was in medical practice for 35 years in Reading, MA before relocating to Windsor, Maine and practicing medicine for 10 years as a staff physician at the V.A. Hospital in Togus until his retirement in 2006. On June 22, 2002, he married the former Theresa Turcotte and they have resided in Auburn for the past four years. Among his favorite enjoyments were spending time with the grandchildren, sailing and boating, reading and doing crossword puzzles. Dr. Carrigan was a very humble and down-to-earth personality as well as a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
John leaves behind his wife of 21 years, Theresa Carrigan of Auburn; a son, Matthew Carrigan and wife Ginger of Steamboat Springs, CO; two stepsons Daniel Fortin and wife Julie of Hendersonville, NC and Anthony Fortin and wife Kathy of Naples, ME; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters Annie Higgins, Edie Mahoney and husband Larry, Erna Donahue, Steven Carrigan and wife Debra, Kathleen Riley and husband J.R., Mark Carrigan and wife Loretta, Christine Adams and husband Eddy and Wayne Carrigan and wife Jane; a sister-in-law Lorraine Carrigan and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Kevin Carrigan and a step-son Donald Fortin.
At his prior request, a celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
