Waterville – Florence P. Hansen, 93, of Waterville, ME passed away on February 15, 2023 at Inland Hospital in Waterville. She was born on March 27, 1929 the daughter of George F. and Luella (Small) Parsons in Auburn, ME. After graduating from high school Florence attended Nasson College before getting her Masters Degree from Columbia University. She married Walter J Hansen Sr. and together they spent the next 39 years raising their family before he passed in 1996.
Florence worked at Nasson College in Springvale ME from 1955—1963; she then went onto Goodall Hospital in Sanford as Chief Dietician and Director of Food Services; she worked at University of New Hampshire from 1974 – 1981 as Assistant Professor of Food and Food Science before working at Plattsburg State University where she retired in 1988. In the mid 60’s Florence was President of the Maine Dietetic Association now known as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, board member and crafter at the Old Time Shop in Sanford which featured crafts made by the “Old Timers”. She was a member of Nasson College Alumni, the Searchlight Club, Director of Mass Feeding in York County, and The Red Cross as a CPR instructor. She was a very long time member of North Parish in Sanford serving on the Board of Trustees and as a Deacon. She loved to travel with her husband Walter going places like Europe, Alaska, many places in the U.S. and the US Virgin Islands.
Florence is survived by her sons Walter J.Hansen and his wife Mary of Oakland Me; Christian and his wife Betty of Waterville, a sister Jane Norris of Auburn; and 4 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, a brother John Parsons and sister Georgia Eustis.
The family invites you to a time of visitation at Fortin Group Funeral Home, 217 Turner St, AUBURN on Thursday February 23rd from 10:00am to 11:00am, immediately followed by a service at the Fortin Group and committal services at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 980 Turner St, Auburn, ME.
