Born on December 15, 1931 to Nelson ”Whitey” Sampson and Juliette Pinard Sampson, she was raised in Lewiston and then Auburn, where she graduated from Edward Little High School with the class of 1950.
During this time, she met her future husband Leo “Pete” Therriault, and they married in 1953 then soon moved to Ft. Dix NJ while he was in the Army. While there, they had their first daughter, Linda Gail, followed by daughter Debra Ann upon their return to Maine, and subsequently they had a son, Peter Michael.
During her career, she had worked as a clerk at WT Grant during her high school years, and later went on to become a loan officer at Community Credit Union, then finally retiring from a long life of productivity in 2022 when she left Lamey Wellehan Shoe after a long part time career there.
Despite losing her husband to cancer in 1983, and facing several cancer diagnoses herself, she always persevered and lived in her own home until a bout of covid on her 90th Birthday necessitated a move to Sarah Frye Home in Auburn for additional care. Doris served as a great inspiration to us and most everyone that she encountered as we’ve often been told over the years!
Doris (Mem) leaves behind:
Daughter Linda Mathieu and husband Bob, and their daughter Darci and husband Greg Hamann along with their children Emily and Brendan Hamann, and their daughter Kylee Mathieu along with her sons Colby and Connor Ames.
Her daughter Debra Ann Charest and fiancé Bruce Little, along with Debra’s children Kiersten Malloy and husband Jeff and their daughter Peighton, daughter Kourtny Gordon and husband Jason, along with their children Alexander and Gabriella, son Kyle Charest and his wife Rebecca along with fur babies Winston, Hailey and Piper.
Her son Peter and his partner Jodi Evers, along with puppy Miss BayLee, who loved to visit Doris and her friends at Sarah Frye.
She is also survived by her brother Maurice “Sam” Sampson and his wife Joanna.
Doris often shared that she dearly loved her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, and especially loved Christmas, when she could shower them with gifts. Being a child of the depression era, she never had much and did all that she could so that her little ones wouldn’t go without as she had. Christmas at “Mem’s” often went long into the wee hours of the morning!
She was predeceased by her Husband, Leo “Pete”, her Parents, her brothers Edmond and Richard Sampson, sister Joan and her husband Wilfred Chouinard, along with her special friend Al Simpson.
The family would like to share our deepest appreciation to the staff of Sarah Frye Home for their excellent care and for making Doris’ stay there a wonderful and safe respite for her.
Rest well sweet soul.
