The daughter of Deane Milton Sturgis and Erma Norine Rowe, both of Auburn, Deanne was born on March 28th,1954, in Lewiston, Maine.
At a young age, Deanne lived in Cape Elizabeth, Maine before moving to Massachusetts. She was a Graduate of Stoneham High School in Stoneham, MA in 1972. She met her loving husband Thomas T. Doherty of Stoneham, MA and they married on August 24,1974.
Together they returned to Maine in 1976, eventually settling in Auburn, where she ultimately found her calling in the Nursing field.
She dedicated her life’s work to helping patients with special needs, in nursing homes, brain trauma, & hospice care. She later returned to the CMMC School of Nursing, where she was a 1985 graduate, to teach her nursing skills to others. Over her many years of nursing, she worked in facilities such as Clover Manor, John F. Murphy Homes, Montello Manor, Goodwill (Westside) NeuroRehab, and Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice House.
Deanne loved and enjoyed many activities, from taking in her children’s and grandchildren’s sports games to hot-air ballooning. She especially enjoyed any opportunity that brought her friends and family together. She had a passion for photography and also Sweet Adeline and Barbershop singing, where she often performed with her beloved parents.
The ocean and the lighthouses that lined it were her favorite places to be, often taking day trips to visit and photograph any spots she could. But she was particularly fond of her favorite, Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
But most importantly, Deanne was a devoted wife and mother, her two true callings in life. She and her husband recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary after more than 50 years together.
She is predeceased by her parents, Deane and Erma. She is survived by her husband Thomas and her children, Thomas D. Doherty and his wife, Kelli, of Moyock, NC, and their son’s Alex and Ben; Nathan P. Doherty of San Diego, California, and his children Tyler, Brianna, Dani, Whitney, and Irish; and Jamie T. Doherty and his wife, Misti of Torrington, CT and their children, Brady, Madi, and Avery.
She is also survived by her brothers, Jeff Sturgis and his wife Sue, of Minot; Mark Sturgis and his wife Kumi, of American Fork, UT; Craig Sturgis and his partner Joseph, of New York; and Bruce Sturgis and his wife Cindy, of Minot; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
