Sullivan passed away from the complications associated with Alzheimer’s Disease.
William (Bill) J. Sullivan was born March 13, 1932, in Hamilton, Ontario to Fred and Mary Sullivan. Bill became a skilled mason and was responsible for the brickwork on hundreds of homes in Hamilton. Sullivan then became a firefighter, serving at Hamilton’s Central Station (currently fire station Number 1).
In 1956, he moved to the United States and served in the Korean War as a water purification specialist for the U.S. Army.
Shortly after returning from Korea, he started his more than 30-year career at General Motors. Bill served as the superintendent in charge of maintenance at the G.M. World Headquarters in Detroit. He also held that position at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, MI.
Bill was an active member of the Eagles, Moose, and Athletic Boosters Clubs.
In retirement, one of his great joys was being a grandpa and hosting family gatherings at his home in Mayville, MI.
He is survived by his two brothers, George Sullivan of Taylor, MI and Ted Sullivan of Brantford, Ontario, his four children, Tom Maddock of Sterling Heights, Pam Cowan of Troy, Bill (Mary) Sullivan of Auburn Hills, MI and Lee (Beth) Sullivan of Pasadena, CA.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in life by his wife Sybil, parents Mary and Fred, and brother Jack.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in his name to any firefighter charity. Or simply thank a firefighter for their service.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 10th at Pixley Funeral Home 3530 Auburn Rd, Auburn Hills, MI.
Visitation will be held at 9 am – 12 pm. Service will be held at 12 pm – 1 pm.
