Gail Ann (Baum) Duncan, a longtime resident of Rochester Hills, Michigan, passed away surrounded by family on Nov. 23, 2023, in Lapeer, Michigan. She was 76 years old.
Born in Pontiac, Michigan, Gail lived most of her adult life in the home her parents had owned on Eastwood Street in Rochester Hills. She recalled the family home “always was the house everybody came to” and she endeavored to continue that tradition throughout her life.
She was a 1965 graduate of Avondale High School where mathematics was her favorite subject.
She was married for seven years to Michael (Mick) Duncan, with whom she had two children, Robyn and Robbie. She never remarried and as a single parent came to appreciate the importance of support from family and friends.
Gail was employed as an administration assistant for 22 years at MetLife and then for 15 years at Vehma International in Troy, Michigan.
In retirement, she enjoyed volunteer work, reading, crocheting and road trips. “You give me a weekend road trip, and I’m a happy camper,” she would say. She also enjoyed being a house sitter and babysitter for her many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She liked to celebrate her birthday “month” with a series of lunches, dinners and get-togethers. “I’m kind of boring,” she would say, “but I do enjoy life.”
Her simple advice for living a good life: “I always liked people who were respectful. Never let people who are too snooty and too good get into your life.”
Gail is survived by two brothers, Gary (Dory) Baum, of Clarkston, and Gordon (Beth) Baum, of Pennsylvania, and a sister, Gay (Rob) Kluwe, of Clarkston; her daughter, Robyn Harrington (Mike) , of Rochester Hills, and her son, Robert (Amy) Duncan, of Lapeer, Michigan; grandchildren, Courtney, Chelsea, Michael, Tanner, Parker and Emily; and great-grandchildren Joshua, Arya, Xariah, Rae’Lyn, Legaci and Legend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald (Doc) and Sybil, and her sister, Gwendolyn.
Funeral services will be Thursday Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. (service at 12 p.m.), at Pixley Funeral Home, 3530 Auburn Road, Auburn Hills, Michigan. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made in remembrance of Gail Duncan to the McLaren Hospice and Homecare Foundation.
