September 15, 1954 – September 29, 2020
Rick, a beloved son, nephew and cousin, passed away unexpectedly soon after his 66th birthday. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Meta and Dick Nagaoka. Rick is survived by his aunts, Bernice Wakinaka and Sadame Kondo, and his many cousins.
Rick grew up on a ranch in Penryn, CA where his family grew peaches, pears and plums. He graduated from Del Oro High School and went on to work at Sierra Pine for over 30 years. Rick also worked for the Penryn Fire Department, being elected Director in 1983 and Assistant Chief in 1988. After retiring, Rick did some traveling and then returned to work part-time, checking fire systems for major stores in Northern California and later working for WalMart, where he met and made some wonderful friends.
Rick and his dad had a love for fishing, which started at a very young age. Later, he took up golf and played every chance he got with his cousins and good friends.
Rick was an active member of the Placer Buddhist Church where he chaired both the golf tournament and annual bazaar beer booth.
Rick was a great storyteller and with his slightly sarcastic humor would have people rolling with laughter and wanting more.
Rick cherished his family and many friendships and will be missed by all who loved him.
A private service was held by his family on September 18, 2021. Donations in Memory of Rick may be made to the Placer Buddhist Church (3192 Boyington Road, Penryn, CA 95663).
