Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ChapeloftheHills-Auburn.com for the Brodnik family.
Mary Brodnik peacefully left this world to join her beloved husband of 59 years in heaven on April 26, 2022, at the age of 89. Mary was born on December 13, 1932, in San Francisco, California. She grew up in San Francisco where she met and married the boy next door, Roy Brodnik, who was the love of her life. They were married in San Francisco on February 17, 1951. Ten years and five children later, Mary and Roy moved their family to San Rafael. Mary was a renaissance woman who not only took care of her family but also ran a home daycare, worked as a teacher’s aide at John McPhail and Hartzell elementary schools, worked at “The Kitchen Shop” and “The Bath & Closet” in San Rafael, and was a highly sought after housekeeper. Mary was an extremely talented seamstress, gardener, cook, ceramist, and baker. In retirement, Mary and Roy enjoyed many camping trips to Sierra City, hikes at lakes throughout Marin, and trips to the casino. Mary was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time and sharing her gifts with her family. She was the quintessential grandma. Visits to her home were filled with fun, love, crafts, music, great cooking, and endless Monopoly and Tripoley games. After Roy’s passing in February 2010, Mary was a regular volunteer at the Nazareth House where she was known for her knitting and amazing cookies. Mary left Marin County in 2012 to be closer to her children. She was an extremely caring person who spread kindness and joy everywhere she went.
Mary will always be loved and remembered by her children Linda McKinney and husband Donn of Weimar, Janene Gacherieu and husband Remy of Colfax, Debbie Abdella of New York; Kim Powell of Citrus Heights; grandchildren Kristy McFadden of Dana Point, Dustin Gacherieu and wife Julie of Castro Valley, Megan Martin and husband Ryan of Forrest Hill, Nolan Abdella of New York, Amber Abdella of Massachusetts, Natalie Powell of Citrus Heights, Rebecca Powell of Texas, Joey Powell of Citrus Heights; great-grandchildren Antoinette “Annie” Mary Gacherieu, Remy Gacherieu, Trent Martin, and Remi Martin; brother Ira Hughes and wife Carla of Grass Valley; and her many friends at Roseville Commons and Oakwood Village.
