Lynn Francis Flaherty passed away following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease on March 5, 2025. She was born to Mary and Hervey Baribault on October 6, 1948 in Glendale, California.
After graduating and getting her teaching credential from Chico State College, she spent the next 20 years teaching first grade at Durham Elementary School in Durham, California. In 1990, after getting married to Mike, she moved to Placer County and spent the next 33 years working for the Rockland unified school district at Cobblestone Elementary School.
Only those who knew her best could detect the heart of gold that she possessed through the many layers of her personality that she seldom removed. What most of her former students don’t know about this former first grade teacher of 33 years was how fortunate they were to have her closely watching over them during the first and often the most important year of schooling.
Lynn was a master of teaching the 3 R's to kids of both the fastest and slowest speeds. Few of them ever saw her spend countless extra hours in her classroom on weekends, on vacation days, and after most school days, ensuring that none of those she was responsible for even slipped at the starting line, or before any obstacles they came upon. Lynn was a devoted teacher.
She was renowned for sending notes cards and gifts to everyone for every occasion, she bought her smile, charm, and determination to everything she undertook. Lynn is loved and will be remembered by all.
Her physical presence will be forever missed. Lynn's spirit and memory will remain with all who knew her.
A family celebration of Lynn’s life will be held in the near future, for those who would like to make a gift in Lynn’s memory, a donation to an organization advancing breast cancer, Alzheimer’s research, or animal welfare groups.
