Joseph James Spera was born on July 21, 1954 and grew up in Gardena, California. He was a loving son to Delores and Joseph Spera, and a protective brother to his sisters. Joe attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School, Peary Junior High and Gardena High. At an early age, Joe learned to take things apart and put them back together, much to the amazement of his father! Joe was an active Eagle and Explorer Scout, and played High School football. Joe looked forward to annual summer vacations camping and water skiing with his family at Lake Mead, and continued his love of water sports throughout his life. During and after his High School years, Joe worked at a local Burger King, where he worked his way up the ranks and was ultimately given his own store to manage. That is when he met his future wife, Liz.
Joe married Liz Tancredy on September 9th, 1978 and have one son, Joseph Thomas Spera. They moved to Northern California in 1979. Joe started his own towing company in Hayward and was able to pursue his love of racing cars and helping other race car crews. While living in Hayward, Joe and Liz bred and showed Norwich Terriers for ten years.
After selling his towing company, Joe and Liz bought an animal boarding facility in Carmichael. His love of animals led him to become an animal control officer in Placer County. He volunteered with a wildlife rescue group and took care of orphaned fawns. When Joe retired from the County, he enjoyed working for First Security Services in El Dorado Hills.
Joe will be remembered as a man who would be there for friends and family in their time of need. He loved his family. He was fun loving. He loved life.
We love you Joe.
