On June 16th, 2024, the Lord called John Cecil Cross Jr. to be by his side. He was known closest to him as Johnny or John Dawg. Johnny is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife, Rebecca Cross. They have and will always deeply love each other. Johnny is also survived by his children oldest to youngest: Jacob, William, Jason, Tyler, John, Joan, and Quincy, and his many family members including his mother Gwendolyn, his sisters, his brothers, and many more.
As a kid, Johnny loved Tonka trucks and riding his bicycle. Those activities followed him into his adult years, and he has enjoyed upgrading to family rides on dirt bikes, Harley day trips with his wife, and building RC cars. He loved the color purple, coffee, tea, wildflowers, music, singing, his family, the Bible, and the Lord. Johnny loved hands-on building projects, including working as an amazing foreman, helping his in-laws on their home, and working on his family’s home. He built his family a garden so that they all had a project they could bond over together and which became a peaceful sanctuary with the best sugar snap peas. Johnny had a contagious and uplifting laugh and always seemed to find the right words to make your day better.
Johnny protected his family and was always thinking about how to help each of his family members have their best future. Johnny loved to share his life lessons, including teaching that whether someone is young, old, rich, or poor, everyone deserves honor, respect, and kindness. Johnny’s family holds strongly to their memory and gratitude for him and honor the Lord for continuing to take care of Johnny.
Johnny suffered from heart disease, which led to sudden cardiac arrest. Johnny was a Godly man, and he continues to be a gift from God as he was an organ donor. His gifts have gone to help multiple people who were on donor lists for many years, allowing his lessons of respect and kindness to spread. We all love and miss you Johnny you are now home with the LORD.
