Jimmie Davis Spivey Sr passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Forest, MS, to John Spivey and Janie Lewis-Spivey. He was the youngest of 22 children. He moved to Auburn in 1949 and attended Newcastle Elementary and Placer High School. He worked for Placer County for 27 years, where he started at the Placer County Hospital in the kitchen. In 1977, he left his employment with Placer County and started JD's Linen Service which he operated for for 33 years.
Jimmie was a fixture on local baseball fields where he coached Little League and Women's Softball for many years. He loved all outdoor recreational activities. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing on his boat or towing his kids waterskiing when they were young. He loved also loved motorcycles and hunting. During the last years of his life, he was a regular at Foothills Bowl where he bowled on two leagues. He made friends with everyone he met and always had a smile or joke for them.
Jimmie married his first wife, Barbara, in 1959, and they had five children. In 1992, he married Chongsuk Kim and had 19 years of fun and laughter.
Jimmie is survived by his wife, Chongsuk Spivey, sons Jim Spivey Jr (Auburn, CA), Terry Spivey (Vacaville, CA), Lonnie Spivey (Sacramento, CA) and Isaac Hanley (Auburn, CA) daughters Arlene Milani, Carol Spivey, and Kim Foreman all of Auburn, CA, sisters Lotti Williams (Stockton, CA) and Janie Porter (Sacramento, CA). Jimmie also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 12th, from 10 to 1 and services will be from 1 to 2 pm at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way, Auburn. A gathering for his family and many friends will be held from 3 to 6 pm at the Recreation Park, 123 Recreation Drive, Auburn.
