Daniel Michael Curtin Jr.

Daniel Michael Curtin Jr., a 38 year old Reno, Nevada resident, died Friday, July 14, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Auburn, California. Interment will follow at the Newcastle Cemetery with the assistance of the Chapel of Hills Funeral Home of Auburn, CA.

Daniel Michael Curtin Jr. was born on October 25, 1984, at the Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, California to Daniel and Frida Curtin. He was raised in Newcastle, California and attended school in Auburn and graduated from Placer High School in 2003. Daniel attended college at University of Nevada, Reno and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 2008. He enjoyed Nevada so much he purchased his first home in 2010 in Reno and made himself a permanent Nevada resident.

While growing up with older sister, Marika (Curtin) Taylor, both children were brought up in sports. Daniel enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and tennis as a young boy. During elementary school Daniel won the local Elk Lodge’s basketball free throw contest, and continued which he made it all the way to the state finals. In high school Daniel competed on the Varsity Men’s Tennis Team for Placer High School. Daniel remained an avid sports fan, always cheering on his favorite team San Francisco Giants.

As Daniel grew to love the Sierra Nevada Mountain, he became an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoors man. Rivers, lakes, rocking ridges, and beautiful valleys was Daniel’s happy place to return to in all seasons for the year.

Daniel was a United States Postal employee for over 10 years. He started as a postal mail carrier and when completed his probation of two years he took the federal test to advance his career. Daniel’s brilliant intelligence provided him the opportunity to jump up to Machine Mechanic in the Maintenance Department. This probably had never been done before. Daniel loved work potlucks and bringing a youthful spirit to the department.

Daniel was preceded in death by his maternal father Daniel M. Curtin, Sr.

Daniel is survived by his mother, Frida Curtin of Newcastle, sister, Marika Taylor, brother-in-law, Brian Taylor, niece, Liliana Taylor, nephews, Grayson and Gavin Taylor; grandma, Rosita Pasion, aunts and uncles, numerous cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Daniel will be deeply missed by his home community of Reno, his childhood friends, his loving family members and his three fur babies, Daisy, Willy River and Coconut.

Daniel was a kindhearted and loving person that was just simply wonderful! He is like the sun; he comes out and everyone feels his warm embrace that just makes you smile. Daniel Boy will forever be loved and forever be missed.
