Allan Lee Gonzalez, age 74, joined the ancestors on April 5, 2025 in Foresthill, CA. He was born on July 6, 1950 in Glasgow, MT, a son of the late Robert (Bob) Gonzalez and Isabella (Betty) Gonzalez. He took his last peaceful breaths of life surrounded by the loving hands of his family and his wife of 48 years, Darlene (‘nee Porteous) by his side and in the home he loved so very much. May we all be so blessed at the end.
Al, as he was affectionately known, is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Betty Gonzalez; beloved sister Linda Gonzalez; and brother-in-law Donald Porteous.
Al lived his life with great reverence for the world around him and with much love for his family. Never a boastful person, he always quietly showed his family, friends, and colleagues what it meant to live with character, strength of purpose, and curiosity for the world around him. He passed on his love for fishing, the outdoors, and politics to many friends and family. We mourn the loss of his quick wit as well as his immeasurable talent in fixing (most) things.
He worked with his hands his whole life, from his over 25-year career as a master auto mechanic to a proud member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators & Asbestos Workers International Union Local 16. He gave many years of service to the Local 16 and travelled around the country and Canada working his trade. In retirement he continued to pursue his passions including auto restoration, bread baking, sausage making, and keeping a fine garden. He believed strongly in community service. While a resident in Sacramento, he worked to form a neighborhood association and became active in city politics. After relocating to Foresthill he continued to serve, both as board member of the local community pool and as a volunteer poll worker at the Foresthill Voting Centre. He would impress upon his family and friends the importance of voting as a civic duty.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; son Richard (Darla) Gonzalez and daughters Gina (Bill) Kertesz and Sara Gonzalez; grandchildren Allan, Gina, Kyle, Richard & Dominique; great grandchildren Joseph, Jayden, Atari, and Eleanora (Ellie); youngest brother Kurt Gonzalez and sister-in-law Helen; brother-in-law Louis Satariano and sister-in-law Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
The family is planning a memorial celebration and reception. Further details will be shared soon.
Our hearts are heavy yet eased by the knowledge that he left us peacefully, in dignity, and with great strength. He was our rock and we carry him with us always knowing he will never be far.
