Funeral Services for Mr. Sidney Alton Perkins, age 90 of Springville, will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Morgan Funeral Chapel with John Phillips officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
Sidney passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023 at his home. He graduated from Phillips High school in 1950 and attended law school in Montgomery, Alabama. Sidney served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a Tax Manager and retired from Jim Walters Corporation in Tampa, Florida. Sidney was very proud of serving his country in the military and was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He was also affectionately called “Papaw” and he loved his family, dearly. Sidney became a born again Christian at 87 years old, and loved his Savior Jesus Christ in his latter years.
He is survived by his daughters, Cindy Perkins Aydt (Terry) and Alisa Perkins Smith, six grandchildren, Melissa Aydt Thomas (Beau), Melanie Aydt Buttery (Mike), Candace Jarrett Golden (Josh), Brandon Aydt (Hillary), Sid Jarrett, Sr. (Karly) and Brianne Aydt North (T.J.), 13 great-grandchildren, Destanie Aydt, Braxton Thomas, Bryson Thomas, Audrey Golden, Sid Jarrett, Jr., Myla Thomas, Brock Jarrett, Livy Golden, Jackson Buttery, Sophia Aydt, Charlie North, Asher Aydt and Caleb North, a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Phillips Perkins, his son, Sidney Alton Perkins, Jr., his parents John and Nettie Lavella Perkins, two sisters, Annie Belle Folsom and Dora Jane Weldon, and his brother, J.E. Perkins.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Aydt, Sid Jarrett, Mike Buttery, Beau Thomas, Josh Golden and T.J. North.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassus Hospice and his R.N.’s Perry and Rachael for their care for Sidney.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 9:30 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M. at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
