Mrs. Shirley Hood McCord, 75 of Rainbow City died Saturday March 18th, 2023 soon after a terrible auto accident. She was a 1965 graduate of Gadsden High School. Shirley was the mother of 3 children, 11 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roston & Louise Hood, her dear husband Earl McCord, her daughter Tina Pruitt, and her grandchildren Ricky and Traci Harden.
Shirley loved to fish as a child with her Dad who not only taught her how to fish, but also how to paddle the boat while he fished! She continued to fish as an adult with her husband Earl. Shirley also loved photography. Most of her photo's were of her children and her grandchildren. Later in life she served as a counselor to young women at Celebrate Recovery in Gadsden. One of her favorite hobbies was hiring and then firing her lawn care workers, and sometimes mowing her own grass. Her special love was for her little dachshund dog "Baby." Baby was a constant loving companion until the end.
Shirley was a member of the CrossPoint Community church and was always willing to express her faith in her Lord Jesus. She will always be remembered as being the center of attention in any setting. She constantly tried to make people laugh and sometimes she succeeded. She was loved by her many friends and family. (But not so much by her lawn care workers.)
The service will be Saturday March 25th at 10 am. Viewing at 9:00. Private family burial at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Chaplain Carrol Wafser officiating.
A special thanks to her Health care workers from Gentiva Hospice.
