Raymond Wayne Powell, 65, of Southside, Alabama passed away April 15, 2023, after a brief illness. Raymond was born on October 16, 1957, to Beamon and Jo Powell. He graduated from Etowah High School in 1976, where he was known as an outstanding athlete. After high school, Raymond was drafted by the Chicago Cubs baseball organization. When his career in baseball concluded, Raymond enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Beamon and Jo Powell, son Jason Smith, and nephew Jeremy Brown.
Raymond is survived by his son Devin Powell, stepson Jonathan Tucker, sisters Debra (Bob) Cross, Kay (Gary) Brown, Donna (Duane) Smith, brothers in law Joe and Ricky Finley, and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for the care Raymond received.
