Mr. Rowell passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Randy was born on February 13, 1943 in Fayetteville, TN. He retired from Lexmark International, Randy was, at first thought, a great lover of the outdoors and of nature itself. Although the past few years of illness limited his enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures, we wish to focus now on the things that brought him joy: fishing and hunting trips with his many outdoorsman buddies, working on his farms, smoking a cigar on the back porch with his friend Rick, listening to Chris Stapleton, watching college sports (specifically Alabama and Kentucky but really any sports) with his daughter, taking loving care of the back porch hummingbirds and the animals in his life (Gus, Blackie and Lucy), working in the yard and creating his own zinnia seeds…all with his wife of 57 years. He could build and fix anything. His engineering mind was always sketching and thinking of the cleverest ways for things to be completed. The list of his wonderful projects and creations is never-ending. With 37 years of sobriety, Randy was a loyal and dedicated friend of Bill W & Dr. Bob. He devoted himself tirelessly and selflessly to helping and guiding others, always without judgement, through their journeys with addiction.
More than anything, he loved the Lord and is experiencing comfort and peace for the first time in many years at His feet at this very moment. To honor Randy, we end with these “red letters” from John 17 (verses 1-4): After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you. For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.”
Love you more.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Rowell, his daughter, Amy Rowell, his sister, Carolyn Rowell Caudle (Dwight), his nieces, Jennifer Caudle Kiser (husband Brian, daughter Lucy) and Molly Caudle Fincher (son Jack), his nephew, Matt Caudle (wife Maureen, daughter Kate, son John Owen) and his niece, Molly Caudle Fincher (son Jack).
He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Frances (Hopkins) Rowell, and his daughter, Amanda Rowell.
