Mickey graduated from Etowah High School in 1966, where he was a Beta Club member. In 1972, he co-founded Boyd & Maroney Foreign Car Service with his brother-in-law, Junior Maroney, running it with dedication until retirement. A man of his word if Mickey told you something, it was the truth. He never lost his spirit, even in challenges. Known for his stubborn streak, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished family. To have known Mickey was to have known a truly good man.
Mickey married his high school sweetheart, Edie Boyd, on June 6, 1969, having known her since 4th grade. They built a life of love and adventure. Mickey loved camping trips out west with family, adored his daughters, Rene and Jamie affectionately called "his girls" and delighted in being a grandfather to Bailey.
An outdoorsman, Mickey enjoyed hummingbirds, cats, Auburn football, Westerns, working on his Volkswagens, and Elvis Presley music, especially at Christmas. His passions reflected his vibrant spirit.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Adell Boyd; sister, Elizabeth (Junior) Maroney; and brothers, Robert (Bonnie) Boyd, Gerald Boyd, and Harold Boyd. He is survived by his wife, Edie Boyd; daughters, Rene (Jeremy) Arnold and Jamie Boyd; and grandchild, Bailey Arnold.
Mickey will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at the Community Center at the Rainbow City Library (3702 Rainbow Dr.) on May 10, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. No flowers or gifts needed; please attend to honor Mickey. Casual dress.
