Died courageously December 7th at home in Ashville, AL surrounded by family, as he had requested. After a long and very strenuous fight with colon cancer.
Joey was most known for his hard work and dedication to his family (if you needed anything he was always there. Even on his death bed, when a family member was telling him bye, he'd tell them. "Call me if you need anything" Even though he didn't have the strength to pick up his phone.
He was a prankster, he always made people laugh. Once when he was a kid his Mama said they were all 5 going to get a whooping. Joey said "Ok, I'll go first, but can I whoop Shirley?"
When he had a ruptured appendix. He used that to get out of ever washing dishes again. And never did while they were kids. He was a character with a great sense of humor.
But, he had another side to him he was their protector. He did not allow his younger siblings to be hurt. He always fought and stood up to men twice his size and never lost a fight. Always for them. And in his adult years continued to protect the ones he loved. You just didn't mess with Joey's family.
He will forever be the strongest, most stubborn, most independent and most loved hero in many many hearts.
