Jerry Wayne Collett also known as "Papa" or " coach", age 80 was born March 2, 1944 and passed away June 30, 2024. Funeral service will be at 3pm Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Morgan Funeral Chapel with Dr. Gary Ashley officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1 until 3pm. Burial at Old Harmony Cemetery.
Jerry was a member of New Beginnings Community Church of Gadsden. He was an avid sportsman with a lifelong love of duck hunting and raising sporting dogs. He also enjoyed golfing and Auburn football. One of the highlights of his life was coaching youth sports. He had championship teams in both little league baseball and football. He loved interacting with the boys and following them as they grew into men.
He founded Creative Sports Supply, a small manufacturing company that specialized in equipment for sporting dogs. He operated this for over 30 years until his retirement.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Andrea Collins Collett; two children, daughter, April Collett of Gadsden and son, Paul David Collett of Southside; four grandchildren, Taylor Collett of Southside, Cassidy King of New Orleans, LA, Lauren Click (Noah) of Southside, and Meighan Collett; three great grandchildren, Rayleigh Click and Rhett Click of Southside and Everleigh Lamb; nephew, Jeff Garmon (Stacey) of Southside; nieces, Vickie Marks of St. Petersburg, FL and Michelle Freeman of Moody; special friends, Joe Chapman, Jimmy Kell, Jimmy Kilgo, Bruce Berry, and Elizabeth Nunn.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Onzelle Collett and Jean Garmon (Larry).
