Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2016, at Morgan Funeral Chapel for Gwin Pointer Reed, 78, of Gadsden. She passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 15, 2016.
Pastor Jeff Rowan will officiate. Burial to follow at Crestwood Cemetery.
Gwin was a lifelong member of Paden Baptist Church and the Grace Sunday School Class. She was a majorette, and 1957 graduate of Gadsden High School. She worked at Gadsden Truck Line, Ross Neely Express and Consolidated Freight Ways. Gwin enjoyed being granny to her three amazing grandchildren, painting, reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, wife, grandmother and friend.
Gwin was preceded in death by her husband James “Bill” William Reed; parents A. C. and Virdie Pointer; sisters Minnie Grace Pointer, Verna Pointer Fricks (Lester Fricks) and Mittie Jo Marble; sister-in-law, Barbara Riley.
Survivors include son, James “Jimbo” Gregory Reed, Hoover; daughter-in-law, Vicki Reed, Hoover; daughter, Kimberly Carroll Reed, Gadsden; brother-in-law, Leslie Marble, Gadsden; brother-in-law, Tim Riley, Gadsden; three grandchildren Lindsay Pharo, Lauren and Lawson Reed; and special nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Russell Beaty, Dr. Debora Reiland, and the nurses, aides and staff at Gadsden Health Care and Alacare for their support, love and excellent care over the past years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Paden Baptist Church, 900 Padenreich Ave., Gadsden, AL 35903.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will accept friends for visitation on Monday from 12 to 2 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
