Gordon Michael "Mike" Sanders, 81, of Ohatchee, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born in Calhoun County, Alabama, in 1941 to Samuel and Jane Sanders and grew up in Anniston Alabama, where he graduated from Anniston High School in 1959. He attended the University of Alabama
He is survived by his wife Susan; brother David Sanders (Sonya); sons Tim Sanders (Kim) and Ty Parker; daughters Stephanie Gossett (Jeff), Jennifer Borders (Jason), Leanne Sanders, Whitney Jackson, and Leslie Snow; and grandchildren Allison Sanders, Brian Sanders, Luke Sanders, Anna Anderson (Cory), Chloe Borders, and Clifford Parker; along with four great grandchildren, three nieces, and one nephew. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Jane, his sister Marilyn, and one nephew, Kurt Biel.
Mike will be remembered fondly as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and servant of Jesus. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Weaver. Mike spent over 50 years as an independent grocer and started Food Outlet stores of Calhoun County in 1985. He was highly successful in business but used that success to better the lives of so many. Mike truly had a servant's heart, and never missed an opportunity to help others in need, or to help people achieve their goals. He really enjoyed young people and giving them advice and wisdom from his experiences. The most important thing he always shared was his faith, the Gospel of Jesus, and how that is the most important decision a person can ever make.
Mike also enjoyed fishing, classic cars, and spending time with his family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Eagle Point Church in Jacksonville on February 4, 2023. Dr. Roger Willmore will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am, with the service beginning at 11:00 am. The family will have a private memorial at his home in Ohatchee later in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Weaver, Alabama, in honor of Mike Sanders.
