George Alton Dorris “Red” 83, of Alexandria passed away at his home on August 25, 2021. Funeral Service will be at 2p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ernest Dorries officiating. Graveside service with military honors will follow at Rainbow Memorial Gardens.
Red was born September 5, 1937 in Baileyton, AL to Luther Edward and Lessie (Stapler) Dorries. At the age of 19, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country for 21years, which included several overseas tours in Germany, Iran, Vietnam and Thailand. After retiring from the Army, he served an additional 20 years as civil service at the U.S. Reserve Center in Anniston, Al. Red will be remembered as a warm and witty gentleman with a heart of gold and generous spirit. He always knew the right thing to say even if it was sometimes inappropriate. He believed in people more than they believed in themselves.
He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Edward Dorries; mother, Lessie Irene (Stapler) Dorries; sister, Virginia “Jenny” Dorries; brothers, Wayne Dorries and Jearldine “Jerry” Dorries and sister, Willodean “Dean” Dorries.
Red is survived by his beloved wife and devoted caregiver, Supranee Kongkapan Dorries of 45 years; son, Joel (Elke) Dorries; daughters, Melissa (Michael) Baker, Phyllis Dorries, Janice (Scott) Wyatt, Sandy (Erik) Vincent, and Susan (Julian) Huskey; brother, Ernest Edward Dorries, and many cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or nationalmssociety.org.
Pallbearers will be Jason Dorries, Jeremy Dorries, Austen Truett, Erik Vincent, Julian Huskey, and Jalen Huskey. Honorary pallbearers will be David Shuberg, Michael Baker, Ernest Dorries, Michael Mcguire, Carl Bone, and Mark Dorries.
