father, grandfather, brother, and friend. David peacefully passed away on January 22, 2025, at
the age of 90.
Born on July 28, 1934, in Manchester, Kentucky, David lived a life filled with devotion to his
family, his faith, and his community. He was the husband of Pauline McDaniel and a loving
father to Tamela Herring (Greg). David was also a proud grandfather (Pappy) to Brittney Duncan
(Blake) and Hunter Herring (Dedra), who brought him immeasurable joy. He is survived by his
sister and brothers and numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him
deeply.
David proudly served in the United States Army, where he demonstrated the values of duty,
discipline, and service to his country. These values shaped his life and work, particularly in his
long and dedicated career as a machinist. David was a skilled craftsman, known for his
precision and commitment to his work. He was co-owner and founder of Dixie Tool & Die, and
later went on to establish M & H Tool & Die, where his expertise and leadership were highly
respected in the tool & die industry.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, David was a devoted member of Grace Bible
Church, where he served as a deacon, providing strength and support to his community with
unwavering faith and love.
Outside of work, David had many passions. He was an avid gardener, carefully tending to his
plants with the same attention to detail he applied in all areas of his life. Fishing brought him
peace, and he often spent quiet moments by the water, casting his Zebco rod and enjoying the
serenity of nature. David was also an antique car enthusiast, cherishing his collection and the
history behind each vehicle. He loved the craftsmanship of vintage cars and enjoyed attending
car shows, where he could share his passion with others.
David loved his travels in his RV, often journeying from the East Coast to the West Coast,
enjoying the open road and the freedom it brought. He especially looked forward to his trips to
Florida, where he basked in the warmth of the sun and honed his skills as a shuffleboard player.
He also had a special love for Disney World, where he and his family created countless magical
memories. His passion for Disney World brought him joy and provided an escape into a world of
imagination and wonder.
David found comfort in life’s simple pleasures—enjoying Mama’s chocolate pie, and often found
with a Pepsi in hand, savoring the sweetness of life’s small moments.
David’s legacy of love, faith, hard work, and devotion to his family and community will live on in
the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory Attalla,
Alabama on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 10:00am-11:00am visitation with service to follow. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace Bible Church 3504 Rainbow
