Funeral Services for Mrs. Brenda Ruple Wimpee, age 81 of Rainbow City, will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Coosa Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Fuhrman officiating. A private family burial will be held at Rainbow Memorial Gardens.
Brenda, a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, caring friend, and faithful Christian servant, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Brenda was born in Etowah County to J.C. and Lorene Ruple, on September 17, 1941, and from a young age learned the values of faith, family, and hard work. After graduating from Etowah High School, she married Jerry Wimpee, her husband of 56 years until his passing in 2020, and the two had a son, Jerry Jr. While maintaining a loving Christian home and assisting with the family painting business, she also worked in various capacities outside the home, quickly exhibiting a talent for management and leadership. In 1988, she would return to school, earning her associate degree from Gadsden State, and shortly after was elected to public office, serving two terms as a member of the Rainbow City Council. Until her retirement in 2020, she continued to serve the public, working for the Utilities Board of Rainbow City, primarily in a management capacity. She loved her community.
Brenda’s greatest joy was serving God and family. She came to faith in Jesus Christ at an early age, and spread His gospel to countless others, both in word and deed. Her family and friends frequently sought her wisdom and guidance, and she was widely recognized as a prayer warrior and generous giver. While a member of Coosa Valley Baptist Church since 1975, she served in many capacities: organist for over 40 years, teacher and director of Sunday school, Bible School Director, and Outreach Director, and others, all the while exhibiting consistently the qualities of a Godly woman described in Proverbs 31. Her grandsons, Christopher and Jace, were the apple of her eye, and she enjoyed spending time with them at every opportunity, loving her entire family desperately.
Brenda was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jerry Wimpee, parents J.C. and Lorene Ruple, father and mother-in-law Raymond and Frances Wimpee, and brother-in-law R.E. “Gene” Wimpee. She is survived by her son, Jerry Wimpee, Jr. (Amanda), grandsons Christopher and Jace Wimpee, brother Bobby Ruple (Shirley), sister Gloria Miller (Alan), sister-in-law Loretta Wimpee, and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Silvey, Henry Jester, Jason Lockmiller, Chad Bowling, Colton Ruple and Mike Ruple.
The family will receive friends during the preceding hour from 1:00 P.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M. at Coosa Valley Baptist Church. Flowers may be delivered to Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coosa Valley Baptist Church.
