Visitation for Mr. Billy Ausbon Vance, age 82 of Gadsden, will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Morgan Funeral Chapel. A private family burial will follow at a later date.
Mr. Vance passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at University of Alabama Hospital. Born in Ashville, he graduated from Ashville High school, and attended the University of Jacksonville, where he received his Bachelors of Fine Arts, Cum Laude in 1999. Mr. Vance was a member of the United States National Guard, where he proudly served for over 6 years with 152nd 1st Medical Tank Battalion and served as a clerk, stenographer and tank commander. Later in life, he went back to school to obtain his cosmetology license, and worked as a hairdresser for over 30 years. He was a man of many interests, from fine arts, to nature, or having a beautiful garden, Mr. Vance enjoyed many hobbies. He was a member of the Gadsden Art Association, and helped out in many areas with the Theatre of Gadsden, including set designing/building, acting, chorus, dancing, costumes, makeup and hair designs. Mr. Vance loved volunteering at the Elliot Nutrition Center and most of all, loved hiking the Black Creek Trail at Noccalula Falls. Mr. Vance was a member of First United Methodist Church of Attalla and Historical Society.
He is survived by his daughter, Kohner (Dana) Palardy, his grandson, Paul Justin (Lauren) Faulkner, two great-grandchildren, Paul Kaeden Faulkner and Harper Grace Faulkner, two brothers, Oscar Jr. (Myra) Vance and Robert Steve (Jane) Vance, his sister, Betty Vance (Bill) Stofko, a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.O. and Pearl Vance, and his sister, Geraldine Vance Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “Friends Who Care” with the Gadsden Animal Clinic (256-459-4481), the family requests only house plants or silk arrangements.
