William “Hawk” Reeves, MD, aged 69, of Atlanta, died in his sleep on August 3, 2012. He was born March 1943 in San Francisco, CA, as the eldest child of the late William C. and Mary Jane Reeves. He was a world traveler and lived in New Orleans, Seattle, and the Republic of Panama, before moving with his wife and children to Atlanta in 1989. As an epidemiologist, he had been at the forefront of researching such worldwide epidemics as hepatitis B, various tropical diseases, cervical cancer (papilloma virus), Golf War syndrome, chronic fatigue, and most recently mental health. He was the final director at Gorgas Memorial Laboratory. However, his closest friends knew him best as an outdoor adventure enthusiast, avid photographer, and humorous storyteller. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 18th, at 2pm. The family will receive friends starting at 1pm, at H.M. Patterson & Son, 4550 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30319. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Will; daughter, Myra; brothers, Robert and Terrance; nephews and nieces, Ryan, Rueben, Nicole, and Deborah; and grandchildren, Holt and Futa.
