Thomas John McCloskey, age 63, died of heart failure at his home in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 14, 2016. Born October 9, 1952, at McKinley Hospital in Trenton, New Jersey, he was the youngest child of Frances Pauline Schmidt and Joseph Francis McCloskey, originally of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Tom graduated from Our Lady of the Assumption Elementary and Marist High Schools. He also attended Georgia State University and DeVry Institute. Tom devoted his entire career to the commercial and industrial lighting industry and was employed for the past 15 years with SESCO Lighting, where he served as a sales representative at the time of his death. He was extremely appreciative of the loyalty and opportunity afforded by his company, which in turn drove his highest commitment for quality product and customer service to his clients, company, and business associates. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Fran and Joe McCloskey of Atlanta. He is survived by his son Thomas John McCloskey and two grandchildren of Winder, Georgia, daughter Ashley Marie McCloskey of Atlanta, and two brothers, Dr. Joseph P. McCloskey of Columbia, Maryland, and Frank J. McCloskey of Atlanta. The family has requested that anyone wishing to make a donation in Tom’s name do so by contributing “In memory of Thomas John McCloskey” to the Our Lady of the Assumption’s St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1350 Hearst Drive NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30319. The SVDP Society is dedicated to feeding, clothing, housing, and healing individuals and families who have nowhere else to go. St. Vincent de Paul has special meaning to the family since Tom’s parents were active volunteers of the Society at OLA in the 1970s. The family also wants to convey our deepest thanks to the entire staff at H.M. Patterson & Sons for their caring professionalism and support through this difficult time.
