Susan Lavinia Pecktal Goode, 82, died Saturday April 3, 2010 in Atlanta, GA, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born June 10, 1927 in Kingsport, TN to Joseph Raymond Pecktal and Gladys Pendleton Pecktal. After graduating from Dobbins-Bennett High School in Kingsport, Mrs. Goode attended Duke University where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta, and graduated from Katherine Gibbs School in Chicago. She worked in Tampa before moving to Atlanta in 1953 and married Thomas Jackson “Jack” Goode in 1957. The Goodes raised their family in Brookhaven and spent many happy summers at their cabin on Lake Burton. She was a long-time Braves fan and loved college football and basketball. An avid bridge player, Susan played with the same seven dear friends for over 40 years. Once her children were grown, she returned to work and was employed for many years at Daughtry and Bernays in the Atlanta Merchandise Mart. After retirement she began volunteering at the American Red Cross. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. In 2007, she moved to Canterbury Court, where she continued to enjoy playing bridge with friends and weekends at her beloved lake cabin. Known as “Geko”, to family and close friends, she was predeceased by her husband Jack, in 1988. She is survived by two sons, Tommy Goode and wife Sheila, Andy Goode and wife Christine, all of Atlanta, and one daughter, Pendy Lintner, of Marietta, and 9 grandchildren, Taylor Goode, Alex Goode, Sarah Goode, Emmy Goode, Michael Goode, all of Atlanta, Stephen Lintner, Andrew Lintner, John Lintner, and Will Lintner, all of Marietta, and a wide circle of friends. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at Oglethorpe Hill Chapel from 6 until 8. Funeral service at St James United Methodist Church Wednesday April 7th at 11 o’clock followed by interment at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to St. James United Methodist Church or the American Red Cross.
