Sara Margaret Smith, “Sally”, age 74 of Atlanta died peacefully on January 23, 2019 after a long battle with diabetes. She was the daughter of George William and Margaret Bostwick Smith. Sally attended E. Rivers School and graduated from The Lovett School and the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. After graduation Sally taught at Spaulding Grammar School. She then went to work as a business manager at Georgia State University in the Information Systems Department, subsequently working for real estate development companies and the Resolution Trust Corporation. Later in life she became a Certified Mediator. She also conducted tours for the 1996 Olympics. She returned to Georgia State where she eventually retired due to mounting health problems. Sally was a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church and the Atlanta Junior League. She was a past board member of the Diabetes Association of Atlanta. She had many friends and was particularly fond of her long standing book club and her adventure club. Sally had a kind word for everyone and always looked on the bright side of life. She loved to travel and to entertain in her home. She is survived by her brother George W. (Bill) Smith Jr., (Early), nephews Glenn Bostwick Smith (Tyler), Bradley Cole Smith (Jane), and great nieces and nephews, Chapin Harris Smith, Madison Crew Smith, Graham Walton Smith and Early Gibson Smith. The family expresses its great appreciation for the loving kindness shown by the staff at Hollander Senior Living.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 11:00 am at H.M. Patterson & Son- Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Rd NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA.
