Robert Howard McConnell Sr.

Robert Howard McConnell, Sr., 86, passed away December 28, 2018. Bob, a native of Princeton, KY, graduated from Butler High School and received a degree in Business Administration from Vanderbilt University. He was employed in sales at IBM then later began a 41-year career serving as a stockbroker in the investment industry. During these years, he was awarded the national recognition of being named one of the 20 outstanding stockbrokers of 1980, was a Senior Vice President- Investments at Smith Barney; and was past president of the Georgia Securities Dealers Association. An active member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church, Bob served on the board of deacons, taught a young married Sunday School class, and was a Sunday school director. Bob also served on the board of trustees of the Fledgling Foundation, volunteered for Buckhead Christian Ministries, and was a past president of the Sandy Springs Kiwanis Club. Many things were important to him, but love of his family, church and his Savior Jesus Christ exceeded them all. Bob is survived by his sister, Sue McConnell Jones; three children, Patti M. Rickman (Tim) of High Point, NC, Rob McConnell (Maria) of Atlanta, GA, Jane M. Boyd (Gary) of Ashville, AL; 15 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years Barbara and grandson Lee Rickman. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 5 at Wieuca Road Baptist Church. The funeral will follow visitation at 11:00 in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Buckhead Christian Ministries.
