Robert S. Jordan

and grandfather of seven, died on August 10, 2018 at the age of 87

of natural causes.

He was born on January 19, 1931 in Ashland, AL. From an early

age, Bob learned the value of hard work. He shined shoes, served

popcorn at a local movie theater, worked as a grease monkey on a

drag line and harvested corn fields throughout the mid west.

He graduated from Ashland High School before working his way

through Auburn University by driving a milk delivery route and

cutting hair until he was called into the Marine Corps. After

serving, he returned to Auburn and upon graduation, entered the

sales training program at Owens Corning Fiberglass. He traveled

throughout the country before settling in Atlanta.

At a New Years Day party in 1958, he met Jay Pharr. They married

on November 22, 1958.

In 1960, Bob became a real estate broker and joined Adams-Cates

Company under the tutelage of his life mentor, John O. Chiles.

Honored by Atlanta Magazine in 1963 as Young Man On The Go

for his exceptional work ethic and enthusiasm for the business of

real estate, Bob’s star shone brightly. Two of his proudest

achievements include bringing Marriott Hotel Company to

Atlanta in 1963 and facilitating the sale and eventual development

of over 3,000 acres of what is now known as Windward in

Alpharetta, Ga.

In 1967, Bob partnered with his dear friend Julian McCamey to

form Jordan McCamey Properties. In 1971 Bob established his

own firm, the Jordan Company, where he worked for the rest of

his life. Bob enjoyed being a member of Peachtree Golf Club

where he was President from 1989-1991, the Atlanta Chamber of

Commerce, the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, and a Life Member of the

Piedmont Driving Club.

Bob (or “Zook”) as he was affectionately called by his

grandchildren, loved military history, painting, travel, golf, college

football, ice cream, cigars and good wine. And he was widely

known for his impromptu performances of “Hambone”.

Bob Jordan believed that hard work, humility, and integrity are

the full measure of a man. He will be remembered as a true

gentleman, a good friend, a loving father and a devoted husband.

Bob is survived by the love of his life, Jay Pharr Jordan; children

Missy Redmon (Marshall), Jessica Walmsley (David), Rob Jordan

Jr. (Emily); and grandchildren Jordan Redmon, Melissa Redmon,

Henry Walmsley, George Walmsley, Robert Jordan III, Shelby

Jordan, and Hollis Jordan.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at

2:00 pm at Northside United Methodist Church, 2799 Northside

Drive Atlanta, GA 30305 followed by a celebration of his life at

Peachtree Golf Club, 4600 Peachtree Road Atlanta, GA 30319.
