Richard Harrison Brown was born on August 24, 1946 in Enterprise, Alabama to Nell and Francis Brown. He was educated in the school system of his hometown, Enterprise City Schools, graduating from Enterprise High School in 1964. He attended Troy State College and the University of Mississippi before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served almost 9 years as an air intercept controller. He earned the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign, Meritorious Unit Commendation and National Defense Service Medal. While stationed in Pascagoula, Mississippi, he met the love of his life, Janice Brady, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. After his military service, he began a 40 year career in the broadcast television industry. He worked for Grey Communications, JVC, and Grass Valley Group. He retired after spending 25 years there ending his career as the Vice President of Sales for the Eastern United States. Prior to and during his retirement, he and Janice enjoyed traveling, having visited many places both stateside and abroad. On January 2, 2019, Richard passed away peacefully at home with his wife by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Janice Brady Brown, daughter Catherine Harrison Brown, son William Patrick Whigham, all of Atlanta, Georgia and daughter Stephanie (Larry) Vaughn of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren Taylor Nicole Vaughn and Toney Harrison Vaughn of Birmingham, Alabama; sister Deborah (Joe) James of Enterprise, Alabama; and six nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held January 8th at 1 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son - Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE Atlanta, Georgia 30319. Burial to be held Wednesday, January 9th 12:30 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Folds of Honor.
