Rhoda Malinda Hall, 92, died peacefully of natural causes at Doctor's Hospice in Fayetteville, Georgia on Veterans Day, November 11, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Rhoda (as she preferred to be called—not Ms. Hall) was born on July 10, 1924 in Atlanta, Georgia to her parents, Charlie Edgar and Rosalie Anna Doyle Hall. She graduated from Douglas County High School in 1942. In 1944, she joined the armed forces and was assigned to the Women's Army Corps. Honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal, she was, indeed, a part of The Greatest Generation and very proud of her military service. After the war, Rhoda went to work for Sears, Roebuck and Company and retired 40 years later as an Accounting Supervisor. Many of those years working for Sears were spent in Miami, Florida. Rhoda's faith was very important to her. She was an active and dedicated member of Skyland United Methodist Church, where she volunteered in the nursery, took up tickets for Wednesday-night dinners, volunteered in the church’s afterschool program, and rolled countless coins for missions for many, many years. Second to her faith was her family. She loved and gave generously of her time and talents to her siblings, her nieces and nephews, and her great-nieces and great-nephews, and their spouses. In addition to her parents, Rhoda is pre-deceased by her sisters, Jane Marie Hall (and Jim) Dickinson; Sarah Ensley Hall Caldwell, and brothers John Laurence (Joyce Ilene Achemire) Hall, and Charlie Edgar (and Patricia Ruth Bray) Hall, Jr., and Frank Merrill (and Sarah Elsie Blackstock) Hall. Additionally, she is predeceased by three babies born to her parents: Gertrude Nell Hall, Agnes Caroline Hall, and Naomi Ruth Hall. Although Rhoda neither married nor had children of her own, her life was blessed with many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. She impacted their lives immeasurably. Rhoda is survived by these numerous nieces and nephews and her brother-in-law, John Head Caldwell. Services for Rhoda will be held on November 18, 2016 at H.M. Patterson- Oglethorpe in Brookhaven, Georgia. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., and the funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. Burial with military honors will be at Greenwood Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Rhoda requested “lots and lots of flowers” for her funeral.
