Born in Atlanta, GA on September 5, 1949 to Ralph and Eleanor Panter, Rebecca was the baby girl, adored by her older twin brothers David and Danny. She grew up in a loving household, graduated from St. Pius X Catholic High School and Georgia State University, and very soon met the “love of her life” Craig, a 1971 graduate of Georgia Tech. Craig and Rebecca married in 1975 and had two children, Julie and Kevin. While Rebecca enjoyed teaching piano, her true joy was her family and her children…and eventually her grandchildren! Oh how she cherished them, and they will forever feel and remember that love. They were her entire world, and she was endlessly proud of them.
Family and friends describe Rebecca as youthful, spirited and fun-loving with infectious laughter. They remember her love of holidays and Disney World, and how she turned ordinary occasions (like visits from the Tooth Fairy) into extraordinary occasions. She was also known for her impeccable memory of birthdates, feast dates and anniversaries. She gave small gifts and wrote sweet notes to let those in her life know how much they meant to her.
She was a gentle soul, strongly devoted to her faith, even when she struggled in poor health. Those around her were uplifted by her spirit and smile, and though our hearts ache to be without her, we know she is dancing on streets of gold, joyfully reunited with the family members she has missed for so long.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Eleanor Panter; her son Kevin Craig DuVall in 1995; her husband of 28 years, Craig Fred DuVall in 2003; and her brother Daniel Calvert Panter in 2017. Survivors include her cherished daughter, Julie DuVall Hiland and her husband Sean Hiland of Tucker, GA; her grandchildren, the brightest lights in her life, Eleanor “Ellie” Sieba Hiland, Ethan Craig Hiland and Grace Marie Hiland; her brother David Panter and his wife Linda; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and admirers.
Visitation will be from 9:30-10:00am and a Funeral Mass celebrated at 10:30am on Monday, January 28, 2019 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park.
Please, in lieu of flowers and food, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Kevin Craig DuVall student scholarship fund at St. Pius X Catholic High School.
