Phyllis R. Frost passed away peacefully on June 26, 2017 at the age of 93 with her two daughters at her bedside. Known by her family and friends as “Frosty”, she will forever be remembered as a fun-loving and caring person who loved a great laugh more than most. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Walter E. and Esther N. Ramage; sister, Carol Fyffe; brother, William Ramage; and husband of 19 years, Robert C. Frost, Jr.
Phyllis was born November 25, 1923 in Plainfield, New Jersey and spent her years growing up in Tampa, Florida. She attended the University of Tampa and worked at the Tampa Daily Times. During World War II, she joined the Navy and served as a pharmacist’s mate at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for 2 years. She later served as Secretary to the President of the University of Tampa. She wed Robert C. Frost, Jr, “Jack” in 1949 and relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. Phyllis was employed by the Georgia Institute of Technology for 31 years, retiring in 1990 as Assistant to the Dean in the Mechanical Engineering Department. She was asked to return in a part-time capacity and served an additional 16 years. In her retirement she traveled and volunteered at the Center for Positive Aging. At 81 years she began volunteering with the Women’s Auxiliary of Piedmont Hospital as a “Pink Lady” bringing laughter and fun to anyone she encountered. Phyllis loved her church, and was a devoted member of North Avenue Presbyterian Church for 67 years.
Phyllis is survived by her two daughters, Rebecca F. Nelson, Barbara F. Dashiell and husband, Glenn; grandchildren: Rebecca Swick, Benjamin Nelson, Jason Dashiell, Ellie Dashiell, and Sara Dashiell and great granddaughter, Joanna Nelson, along with several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at H. M. Patterson and Son-Oglethorpe Hill Funeral Home, 4550 Peachtree Rd., NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319 with Dr. Scott Weimer officiating. Family will receive guests from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to North Avenue Presbyterian Church, Renovation Fund, 607 Peachtree St., NE, Atlanta, GA 30308.
