Nancy was born, raised and lived her entire life in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the first of two daughters born to Kathyrn Knight Myers and John Alva Myers, both of Winchester, TN. She lived life fully, pursuing all endeavors with full energy.
Nancy was raised in the Druid Hills neighborhood and was known as the planner, organizer, and leader of her fellow classmates at Druid Hills High School, class of 1979. As a young child, and through adulthood, Lake Burton was a source of happiness and comfort. Through the years she enjoyed lake time with family and many friends.
Following her namesake, great Aunt Edna, into the calling of nursing Nancy earned acceptance into the prestigious BSN program at Vanderbilt University, class of 1984. She enjoyed a full SEC college experience. A proud member of Alpha Omicron Pi, Nancy maintains close friendship with many of her college sorority sisters and the infamous ‘roomies’ roommate gang.
Nancy found her nursing passion in the field of obstetrics and fertility. She worked labor & delivery at Piedmont Hospital where she was eventually charge nurse, then moved to the field of infertility at Reproduction Biology Associates for most of her career. She most recently worked within Emory’s Fertility Clinic. Nancy has been instrumental in helping thousands of hopeful parents bring life into this world during her nearly 40-year career. She provided a wealth of encouragement, excellent nursing skills and knowledge with a generous mix of understanding and care that seemed limitless. Countless holiday cards and pictures arrive addressed to Nancy each season proudly showing off their growing children and continually thanking her for the undivided attention and efforts in reaching their dreams of parenthood. Seeing them grow up was among her happiest memories. Nancy had an enthusiasm for life matched by few, an infectious laugh and wit, and a caring nature that served her well in her chosen profession.
In 2004 Nancy married the love of her life, Mike Ellsworth. Together they made many friends and enjoyed the art of entertaining and nurturing friendships. Through food, travel, and wine, exploring and savoring along the way, Nancy’s magnetic and inclusive personality grew their friendship circle ever wider and deeper. Having a great curiosity for cultures and countries, Nancy and Mike traveled far and wide when opportunities arose including trips to Africa, France, and Italy. Even with a cancer diagnosis in early 2017, she remarkably visited at least six more countries.
A loving and proud aunt, a godmother and “aunt” to many, Nancy is preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her beloved husband of 18 years, Mike Ellsworth, her sister Patricia Myers Elve (Dave Elve), and two nieces Gabrielle and Sophie Elve, her beloved pups, and countless friends and family who loved and adored her.
Maya Angelou said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” She touched many lives and made a difference to so many. When around Nancy, you were loved, valued, and heard. Her family and friends will never forget how she made them feel.
