A graduate of Atlanta Girls High School and Agnes Scott College, Mary was born in Roopville, Georgia, on January 24, 1921, the daughter of Flonnie Stephens and William Henry Brock, and died in Atlanta on May 20, 2012. She married James Fennell Williams on December 28, 1946.
She and her family have been long-time members of Northside Drive Baptist Church where she was chairman of the Memorial Gifts Committee for 22 years.
When their girls went off to college, her husband gave her the gift of a class at the High Museum of Art, which started her career as an artist that continued the remainder of her life. She was a member of the Atlanta Artists Center and the Georgia Watercolor Society. In addition to being a superb painter, she was as excellent cook and a gifted seamstress.
Mary is survived by her two daughters and their husbands—Carolyn Williams and Michael McKeon, of Princeton, NJ, and Nancy Williams and Matt Mancini, of St. Louis, MO—one granddaughter, Lucy McKeon, and one step-grandson, Philip Mancini.
Funeral services will be held at Northside Drive Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 23rd at two o’clock in the afternoon. The family will receive friends one hour prior. A graveside service will follow at Arlington Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Agnes Scott College, 141 East College Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030-3770; or Northside Drive Baptist Church, 3100 Northside Drive NW, Atlanta, GA 30305.
