Mary Ellen Seibert Hardin, age 87, of Atlanta, died peacefully on November 22, 2012. Mary Ellen was born in Buffalo, NY September 20, 1925, to William L. and Julia Casey Seibert. She graduated from State University of New York at Buffalo and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was a social worker for the Red Cross in Washington DC and at Tripler Army Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mrs. Hardin, an Atlanta resident since 1960, was a volunteer for the Piedmont Hospital Auxiliary as well as the Buckhead Christian Ministry. Mary Ellen and Fred, members of the Atlanta Yacht Club since 1964, were active in the sailing community for many years. She was a member of the Ikebana International Flower Arrangement Society and the Iris Garden Club, where she won many awards. Mrs. Hardin was also a devout catholic and a member of The Catholic Cathedral of Christ the King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Ann Harris, of Macon, GA and is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Frederick F. Hardin, of Atlanta; children, William F. “Bill”, Atlanta, Carol Sohl and her husband, Duane, Chicago, IL, Andrew, San Jose, Costa Rica, Jeffrey, his wife, Ding, and their children Morgan and Ava, Chicago, Susan Lesesne, and her children, Christopher, Casey and Chad, Newnan, GA, Gregory, and his wife, Tena, Asheville, NC, Julie, and her partner, Gabrielle LaFon, New Orleans, LA; as well as Mary Ellen’s devoted caretaker, Dawn Dunn. A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10:30 o’clock in the morning at Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta 30305. A reception for family and friends will follow the mass at Cherokee Town Club. The family will receive friends from four until six in the evening on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill, 1020 Spring Street, Atlanta, GA 30309.
