Mary Lee Rogers Cobb died peacefully on July 17 in Atlanta, Georgia, following a period of declining health. She was born August 22, 1919 in Wallace, North Carolina to the late William Lee Rogers and Laura Duncan Rogers. In her youth, her father's job took the family to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Savannah, Georgia, and Brunswick, Georgia, where she graduated from Glynn Academy in 1937. She attended Georgia State Women's College (now Valdosta State). During World War II, she worked in the administrative offices of the Savannah shipyard where she met her husband, the late Thurman A. Cobb. Mr. Cobb's engineering career in the aerospace industry took the family to Dallas, Texas, and Melbourne, Florida, in the fledgling years of America's space program. Following the untimely death of her husband in 1966, Mary Lee moved her family to Brunswick to be near her elderly parents. A lifelong member of the Baptist church, she was active in numerous church activities in each town the family called home. Mary Lee enjoyed life and friends in Brunswick until 1997 when she moved to Atlanta to be near her younger son's family, including her only grandchild. In addition to her husband Thurman, she was predeceased by her son Kenneth Lee Cobb. She is survived by her son Dr. John T. Cobb, daughter-in-law Shelby, and grandson Addison Forrest Cobb. Other survivors include niece Carolyn Cobb Smith, nephew Charles S. Cobb, and cousin Verna Gates. The family wishes to thank her exceedingly kind and patient caregivers at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living and the ministry of Crossroads Hospice. A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 3, at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one's choice or to the Vanderbilt Medical School Class of 1978 Scholarship (RI1491); Vanderbilt University, Gift Processing; PMB 407727, 2301 Vanderbilt Place; Nashville, TN 37240-7727.
