Luis A. Torres, also affectionately known by his family as “Bubba”, entered eternal life on April 20, 2016. His spirit is carried on by his wife of 38 years, Anastasia; his daughter Anne Marie; his granddaughter Alyssa; five surviving siblings including his sister Neida; his brothers Edwin, Lionel, Jose (Bertin), Ricky, and extended family and friends. Luis was born in Villalba, Puerto Rico. He later became a resident of New Jersey and spent his last years residing in Atlanta, Georgia. He was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2008 and fought hard until the end. Luis wasn’t a quitter. He was world-renowned for his cooking and his enviable handicap in golf. He was a master craftsman and took pride in taking care of his home. He loved a good tee time, fishing and being outdoors. Above all, Luis loved his girls. He taught them to work hard, to select a quality hammer and most importantly to “do their best and forget about the rest”. Luis was selfless and giving to others. In fact, he spent 25 years helping people get back on their feet and employed. During his time in social services, Luis met two lifelong friends in Nereida Lombardi and Rodney Johnson. He hopes that they will carry on his memory by listening to Barry White every now and then and staying thirsty. Luis is preceded in death by his parents, Marcial and Dalila Torres-Marrero; as well as his sister, Delia Torres and his brother, Jaime Torres. A private memorial service will be held for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Visiting Nurse Health System Hospice Atlanta “in memory”. Donations can be sent to: 1244 Park Vista Drive NE, Atlanta, GA, 30319. The Family will receive 6-8 PM Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at HM Patterson Oglethorpe Hill Funeral Home. 4550 Peachtree Road Brookhaven, GA 30319.
