Louie Blakeman Wood, 91 passed away on October 17, 2014 . Louie was born in Atlanta GA on September 13, 1923 to Louie B. Wood Sr. and Eria Kilpatrick Wood and was a life-long Atlanta resident. He graduated from Boy's High School and received his B.A. degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, Long Island, NY. During World War II, Louie served in the Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, first as part of the merchant fleet in the North Atlantic and at the end of the war in Okinawa Japan. He received a meritorious service medal for performing rescue operations when his ship, the SS Charles Morgan, was sunk during the Normandy Invasion at Utah Beach on D-Day. His business career in Atlanta started as a life insurance agent for the National Life of Vermont. He became a chartered life underwriter and was a member of the American College of Life Underwriters and lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table. His later career was as a real estate broker and developer with Miller-Wood Company, which was first in Atlanta in completing an apartment complex to condominium conversion project. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Capitol City Club, and Piedmont Driving Club. Louie is survived by his wife Nancy Jagels Starr Wood, three sons James Wood, Lamar Wood, and Blake Wood, brother and sister-in-law Warren and Lynne Wood, four grandchildren, Anna Belle Wood (Ty), Zachry Wood, Joseph Wood, and Ashley Wood, as well as nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers Eugene Siluyele and Patrick Phiri, long time employees Janice Calhoun and Williease Kimble, and therapist Angela Lisenby. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 20 at 2 o'clock at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Agape Hospice Care Inc., 5825 Glenridge Dr. NE, Atlanta GA 30328, or a charity of your choice.
